A Response to Edip Yüksel’s Claim “The Last Two Verses of Surah At-Tawbah Were Added to the Quran Later”
Edip Yüksel puts forward a claim that the last 2 verses of Surah At-Tawbah were added to the Quran later, that the system of 19 protects the Quran and these last 2 verses do not fit the system of 19, and that because the narrations on the subject contradict each other these two verses cannot belong to the Quran.
Although Edip Yüksel, who puts forward this claim, does not accept narrations, when it comes to the last two verses of Surah At-Tawbah in question he takes narrations into account and presents them as evidence, and thereby contradicts himself.
Moreover, the Quran is the revelation of Allah; it has not reached our day through narrations. The Quran was made into a Book in the time of Prophet Muhammad. All the verses of the Quran also point to this. Yet for Edip Yüksel, who knows this truth, to disregard this fact for the last two verses of Surah At-Tawbah (or for the system of 19) is behaviour far from sincerity.
Or do you believe in one part of the Book and deny another part? (Surah Al-Baqarah, 85)
In the Quran there are not only the miracle of 19 but many mathematical, semantic, vital and scientific miracles of a kind that could not have been known 1400-odd years ago. There is no expression that contradicts tested science. Moreover, in the last 2 verses of Surah At-Tawbah there is a separate measure of 19.
HISTORICAL EVIDENCE
The oldest known specimen of the Quran is the SANA MUSHAF, found in the storeroom of the Sana mosque in Yemen and called by the same name. When this mushaf, proven by carbon testing to date to at most 27 years after the known date of Prophet Muhammad’s death, is examined, it is CLEARLY seen to be in complete harmony with today’s Quran. There is absolutely NO change or difference apart from one or two spelling and calligrapher’s errors and, contrary to what some claim, Surah At-Tawbah too is COMPLETE and without error. As seen in the illustrated account as well, its last two verses (verses 128 and 129) read whole and without any omission.
Indeed, Allah has guaranteed in His exalted book that It will be protected, and it is clear from the very start that no other result will be encountered.
Indeed, it is We who sent down the Book, and We are certainly its protector. (Surah Al-Hijr, verse 9)
There is no need for forced ideas of this kind, as Edip Yüksel does. The Quran, in which there are hundreds of mathematical and literary miracles besides the miracle of 19, is as it was on the first day it was revealed. Nothing has been added to It and nothing has been taken away from It.
This mushaf, dated so far back that the extra-Quranic sources that are always complained about had not yet had any effect, has also answered this grave claim. What now falls to Edip Yüksel is to give up this claim of his and to repent in the light of science. It is to fulfil what being a virtuous person requires.
